Purpose of the Scholarship Program

Tuition for college students is on the rise! College costs are outpacing inflation and parental savings, and the amount of financial aid is dwindling. Many promising Indiana students may not realize their dreams of higher education. At a time when education is recognized as the key to changed lives and a better society, access for all students should be a top priority.

Last year, the Northridge Dollars for Scholars program awarded $500 scholarships to Northridge High School graduates to encourage them in their pursuit of post-high school education and dreams.

Stats Tell the Story!

• Since it beginning, Scholarship America has awarded more than a "Billion" dollars to more than a million students through their Dollars for Scholars affiliates and their Scholarship Management Services.
• Indiana's 106 Dollars for Scholars Chapters have raised over $2,000,000 and awarded 2,700 scholarships in 2004.
• Since 1987, Northridge Dollars for Scholars has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships to over 1400 Northridge graduates.

How are Funds Raised?

• Each year local individuals, clubs, businesses and industries are invited to contribute to the annual Northridge Dollars for Scholars fund drive.
• Each year the National Honor Society students help with an annual phone-a-thon, inviting all citizens living in the Middlebury Community School District to give in order to affirm as many graduates as possible. One third of the scholarships are funded in this manner.
• Permanent fund revenue is the third major source of funding. Northridge Dollars for Scholars uses the Elkhart County Community Foundation (ECCF) as their manager of permanent monies. The Elkhart County Community Foundation consists of local business people managing local monies for the benefit of local people. This partnership serves Northridge Dollars for Scholars well.
