Transportation Memo

Subj:     Heritage Intermediate School (HIS) Parent Meeting

Date:    1 April 2008

School start times, which the school board has approved, are as follows:

K-3 7:45 – 2:10
HIS 8:05 – 2:30
NMS 8:40 – 3:40 9:05 – 3:40 Delayed Schedule (every Wed.)
NHS 8:45 – 3:45 9:10 – 3:45 Delayed Schedule (every Wed.)

The first bus in the morning through your area will be a K–5 bus. That bus will pick up K–5 students only and proceed to their respective elementary school.

Bus arrival time will be at 7:30 at their respective schools to allow for those K-3 students desiring breakfast. The remainder of the kids will remain on the bus until the first bell at approximately 7:35. The 4th and 5th grade students will then get on the express buses to go to HIS.  Middle and high school students will not be permitted to ride these buses. Furthermore, there will be no transportation from the elementary schools for students to the middle or high school. These express buses will not stop enroute, but will proceed directly to HIS and are only for 4th and 5th grade students. Their arrival time should be around 7:45 with the first bell ringing at 7:50.  Buses arriving prior to 7:50 will drop off students who wish to eat breakfast. All students will then be released from buses at 7:50. Regardless of the bus arrival time, all students choosing to eat breakfast will be afforded an opportunity to eat.

Fourth and fifth grade students will ride their own bus home. There will be a bus, or buses (as required), to drop students off at the Boys and Girls Club.

We will be expanding our communal stop program where students in sub divisions and downtown Middlebury will need to meet at programmed bus stops.

Student pick up times will be earlier than this year. We will be starting the elementary schools 15 minutes earlier than this year. Most routes will start between 6:30 and 6:45 A.M. Currently, they start between 6:45 and 7:00 A.M. These route times are nearly the same as this year accept for the 15-minute earlier pick up time, which is driven by the earlier start times for the elementary schools.

Our Transportation Department will send out correspondence this summer with your children’s bus stop location, bus driver and bus number (if known), as well as approximate pick up and take home times.
