During tonight's meeting, the board of trustees approved the administrative recommendation to appoint Mrs. Kari Dyer as Director of Elementary Education effective July 1.
During her 24 years in public education, Mrs. Dyer has taught three different elementary grade levels, supported teachers as a literacy coach, worked as an assistant principal, and most recently served twelve successful years as Principal of Heritage Intermediate School. Mrs. Dyer has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from Manchester College and a master's degree in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is currently working to add licensure in High Ability Education. Over the years, Mrs. Dyer has helped MCS with the recruitment, supervision, and development of certified teachers and classified support staff. She has collaborated with district administration while leading the evaluation and selection of elementary curriculum. As Principal at HIS, she worked to foster a customer service approach to public relations. In her new role as Director of Elementary Education, Mrs. Dyer will oversee all elementary curriculum and professional development initiatives. She will supervise and mentor our five elementary principals and participate in the recruitment and hiring of certified elementary staff. She will manage the Title I, Title II, High Ability, and Early Intervention grants and act as the required MCS Coordinator for both High Ability and Dyslexia. She will work closely with the Director of Secondary Education in the review of school handbooks and ongoing school improvement initiatives, while co-facilitating regular meetings with the MCS Instructional Leadership Team. Mrs. Dyer is an advocate for the continuous improvement of professional practices in order to increase learning outcomes for all MCS students. She has fantastic communication skills and is well respected within our community as a leader who demonstrates strong character and integrity. We are certain she will be successful in this new role and look forward to her getting started next school year.

We would like to honor our school maintenance workers on National Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day! Our maintenance crew is up early plowing roads and parking lots, fixing things in all of our buildings, mowing lawns, and taking care of anything else that needs done. They do all of this with a smile, knowing that it helps our schools run smoothly. Thank you for all that you do!!
Middlebury Elementary School students celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss today by eating green eggs and having a reading cafe. Special guests were able to “order” a book from the menu. That book was then read to them by a student. These are great traditions at MES!
Heritage Intermediate School students are hard at work in their classrooms. Walking around the building you can find students engaged in whole group discussions, small group projects, and individual learning. HIS is a great place for students to be successful!

York Elementary School recently celebrated a Family Literacy Night last night. STEAM activities were based on their school wide Reading Challenge with authors Keiko Kasza and Kevin Henkes. What a great event for families!

The Northridge Dance Team has qualified for the IHSDTA State Finals in both Pom & Hip Hop! Both routines will attempt to bring home a State Title in two weeks. Go Raiders!
Congratulations to the Northridge High School and Northridge Middle School Science Olympiad teams. They participated in the regional competition today at Ivy Tech Lafayette. The middle school team took first place and advances to the state competition! The high school teams took first, second, and fourth place and advance to the state competition for the 23rd consecutive year! Congratulations!!! Go Raiders! 🔰

After reviewing updates from numerous weather sources, we see the likelihood of ice and sleet moving through our area during the morning commute. In order to prioritize the safety of our students and staff, we will operate today, February 22, on a 2-hour delay to allow this system to pass. Start times are as follows: K-3 at 9:40, HIS at 10:00, NMS at 10:40, and NHS at 10:45.

Students at Northridge High School are hard at work during sectional time in band. Sectional time allows students to work together to get their parts down in a small group setting. It also helps to develop leadership skills. These students have a bright future ahead of them!
