Middlebury Elementary School third grade student, Liam Rogers was honored during the Middlebury Moment at the school board meeting on Tuesday evening. Liam has shown great growth at MES and has many people who are very proud of his progress. This is evidenced by the number of staff members that showed up to honor him. Here is what Dr. Snyder said of Liam during the meeting:
"Liam struggled quite a bit in kindergarten and 1st grade. Since then, he has made huge strides. In fact, in 2nd grade, he was recognized as a “Mighty Middie” award winner at Middlebury Elementary. He is now doing really well in 3rd grade and was just recognized as a “Mighty Middie” award winner again. He recently shared with a teacher that he would like to go back and apologize to his kindergarten teacher, because he knows how much better he is doing now, and he is proud of himself for turning things around.
When I spoke with Liam’s mom, Samantha, on the phone a few weeks ago, she shared how happy she is with the school district and expressed incredible appreciation for the staff at MES.
Principal Hostetler nominated Liam, and stated that Mr. Peery, Mrs. Engle, Mrs. Steiner, Mrs. Mast, and Mr. Sallee have all helped support Liam throughout this time of improvement. They are all excited that Liam has overcome some big challenges, and that he will undoubtedly continue to do great things in the future. We are proud of you, Liam!"

Middlebury Elementary School shared information about their Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser at the board meeting last night. This is a yearly event in which students jump rope for donations that go to the American Heart Association. MES has raised $82,776.74 since this began in 2008! Students also gave a demonstration of the skills they have learned in PE class with Mrs. Frey. Way to go Middies!

Jefferson Elementary School kindergarten students learned about snow by programming VEX123 robots to work as snowplows, pushing snow off the "road". We love these lessons where students learn coding and problem-solving skills!

Middlebury Community Schools will be on a 2-hour delay today, Thursday, February 13, 2025.

We received information today from the Indiana Department of Education that differs from what was communicated to us on Monday regarding additional potential weather-related school closures. The IDOE Director of Accountability informed us today that we will be granted a waiver for two additional e-learning days, if needed.
While we hope that there will not be a need to close schools, safety is always our first priority. With the new guidance from the IDOE, if two future cancellations are needed, the days will be e-learning days. Additional days beyond what is granted by the waiver would need to be made up at the end of the school year.
We apologize for any confusion this has created. We will continue to be transparent with any information we receive and communicate updates as quickly as possible.

Northridge Middle School students enjoy some downtime to socialize during lunch.

The Indiana Department of Education permits school districts to use up to three asynchronous e-learning days for weather-related closures each school year. MCS has already utilized all three days for the 2024-25 school year.
After consulting with the IDOE Office of School Accountability, we have determined that if an additional weather day is required, it would need to be made up in person or conducted as a virtual learning day with live instruction.
Considering multiple factors, we believe the best option would be to observe a traditional “snow day” and schedule an in-person make-up day later.
At this time, this scenario remains hypothetical, and we are hopeful that no additional weather days will be needed. However, in the interest of transparency, we wanted to communicate our plan. Should future cancellations be necessary during the current school year, we will observe a traditional snow day and collaborate with our teachers’ association to schedule the make-up date.

Jefferson Elementary School students have lots of smiles and are working hard!!

Congratulations to the Northridge Middle School Math Counts team on their 3rd place finish at the competition at Notre Dame today. Go Raiders!

Jefferson Elementary School students have lots of smiles as they work and learn at school!

We have continued monitoring road conditions across all three townships of our school district, which spans nearly 100 square miles. Given start times and driver schedules, a decision had to be finalized by 7:30 a.m. Unfortunately, conditions in subdivisions and on many county roads have not improved enough to safely proceed with a typical school day. As a result, today, February 6, 2025, will be an e-learning day for MCS.
Thank you for your understanding. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.
