Jenn Ross, elementary literacy coach, models how to organize a paragraph in 4th and 5th classrooms at HIS. When a literacy coach teaches a lesson in the classroom, students benefit from new strategies that improve their reading and writing skills. Teachers also gain useful techniques and resources that they can use in future lessons. This support helps create a stronger learning environment for everyone!

TSA’s mission is to enhance personal growth, leadership, and career opportunities in these fields by providing students with the tools and experiences they need to succeed in an ever-evolving technological world. The organization offers a wide range of competitive events, such as engineering challenges, robotics, coding, digital media, architectural design, and more, that help students develop skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking.

After spending the last few weeks preparing resumes, applying for positions, and practicing interviewing, the students were well prepared for a great day. Students interviewed for a variety of apprenticeship positions including Health Care, IT, Business, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Early Childhood, and Human Services. The students all left the interviews feeling positive about the experience. Thanks to Goshen High School for hosting us and to Horizon Education Alliance for organizing the event. Middlebury Elementary School third grade student, Liam Rogers was honored during the Middlebury Moment at the school board meeting on Tuesday evening. Liam has shown great growth at MES and has many people who are very proud of his progress. This is evidenced by the number of staff members that showed up to honor him. Here is what Dr. Snyder said of Liam during the meeting:
"Liam struggled quite a bit in kindergarten and 1st grade. Since then, he has made huge strides. In fact, in 2nd grade, he was recognized as a “Mighty Middie” award winner at Middlebury Elementary. He is now doing really well in 3rd grade and was just recognized as a “Mighty Middie” award winner again. He recently shared with a teacher that he would like to go back and apologize to his kindergarten teacher, because he knows how much better he is doing now, and he is proud of himself for turning things around.
When I spoke with Liam’s mom, Samantha, on the phone a few weeks ago, she shared how happy she is with the school district and expressed incredible appreciation for the staff at MES.
Principal Hostetler nominated Liam, and stated that Mr. Peery, Mrs. Engle, Mrs. Steiner, Mrs. Mast, and Mr. Sallee have all helped support Liam throughout this time of improvement. They are all excited that Liam has overcome some big challenges, and that he will undoubtedly continue to do great things in the future. We are proud of you, Liam!"
